John Vande Wege is a video journalist for the Los Angeles Times. Prior to working with the Times he worked for 25 years in video production correlating videos.
He prefers the title video journalist opposed to Multimedia.
"We are trying to get away from it [multimedia] because it involves to much with slides," said Wege.
Wege was the Producer of the video package, however all the videos and photography was collected by Francine Orr.
Wege worked hand-in-Hand with the reporter and photographer to create this video package. "By the end it was problely a 10-12 hour process. That was after going over all the video and photos with Orr and then sitting down with the reporter and going over the story," said Wege.

Cease Animal Torture (CAT) BBQ
The Cease Animal Torture group at CSULB hosted a vegan BBQ on campus that featured Peter Young as a guest speaker and also provided other entertainment on April 14. I worked in a group of three to compile a video with the length of three to four minutes of the event. I took the still pictures, Lauren recorded the audio and Steven recorded video. Later we cut and edited all of our pieces into a short video. Making decisions as a group can be difficult but we did well at communicating and sharing our ideas with each other. I think the overall video did a great job at representing the CAT BBQ that day.

Daily Forty-Niner weekly podcast
I purposed a weekly podcast for the Daily Forty-Niner, a weekly paper at Cal State University Long Beach (CSULB), that would highlight a current event or story from the reporters perspective. This would allow the reporters to give the inside scoop to the audience and allow the audience to share their views on the subject.
The first podcast was about the demolition and reconstruction to the old Outpost located on CSULB's campus. I interviewed the main reporter on the beat which is Tiffany Rider. The experience was interesting. I never realized how many times it would take for someone to feel comfortable being recorded. The person being recorded has to be relaxed, calm, and know what they are going to say. Many times people would quickly blurt out what they wanted to say, which would cause their message to be hard to understand. I would have to talk to them for a little while, make them feel comfortable and then ask them my questions. Although my podcast was never posted, the stories that Tiffany wrote can be found at:

Protesters V. Ludacris

I did my audio slideshow of the protester at the Ludacris concert at the Walter Pyramid , February 25. However, College Publisher does not allow a multi folder to be loaded in its old program CP5. For the Daily Forty-Niner online publication, I provided audio from the slideshow and audio from a press conference with Ludacris. By providing both audio from the protesters and Ludacris, I was able to keep the online story balanced and unbiased.

African Rites of Passage
The first project for my writing for the web class required that I work for the Daily Forty-Niner. I had about one week to get and write a story. The first story I was assigned was about the new text-messaging system that CSULB was going to be implementing. However, no one from the campus was willing to comment on the topic therefore I was assigned another story on the Rites of Passage. African music flowed from the Multicultural Center Thursday, February 14th at seven pm for the “Rites of Passage” hosted by the Black Studies Student Association (BSSA). The people in attendance were very friendly, I found it hard not to be pulled into the topic and group discussion.
